Bonyen is a familiar face on 24-hour cable news stations across New York State. Her statewide reporting is based in Rochester, NY. Her reports air regularly on Time Warner Cable's News Divisions in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and New York City.
As a first generation Chinese-American, Bonyen adds a presence of diversity to each and every newscast. Bonyen traveled to China to cover the preparations for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Her two-week travelogue resulted in a one-hour series, documenting the Chinese culture as it underwent major changes for the Olympics.
Bonyen got her start as an anchor and reporter for the NBC affiliate, KOMU News in Columbia, Missouri. She fell in love with the industry during her part-time anchor/reporter work while attending the country’s top journalism school at the University of Missouri in Columbia where she has a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism. As a proud Mizzou graduate, her work took her to Rochester, New York.
Bonyen attributes teamwork as a key element to getting the job done in the field. She believes it’s what helps her keep the community informed in a timely manner. That teamwork led to three National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) General News Assignment awards for the work she’s done with her fellow colleagues. It included stories about the Chinese people in Beijing preparing for the Olympics as well as people in Rochester’s sister city, Xianyang, China and their connection to local New Yorkers.
